Award Presentation at the National Medical Association’s Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly

On July 19, 2025, The Greater Norfolk Medical Society of South Hampton Roads was named the recipient of the “Small Local Society Award of 2025” at the 2025 National Medical Association’s Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly. Specific criteria were outlined and met by the society. An integral part of our selection to receive the award. was the “Passport To Good Health” program, developed and implemented by our society members. This program was a year long education program designed to teach healthy lifestyles to members of our community. There were sessions each month on various topics and those that participated received a stamp on their passport. Health screens such as BP, weight Hgb AIC, cholesterol levels were done at the beginning, middle, and end of the program for comparison to note improvement. Participants were given feedback on ways to improve their health and access to talk with health experts. This program was made possible by a $100,000 grant from Sentara Health System.
